It's a decision that we've not taken lightly, but due to my fathers ailing health, as a family, we've decided its time that he would best be looked after in a nursing home  He has dementia which has been getting progressively worse over the past 3 years and had a major stroke 2 years ago. Mum can no longer care for him and is not in the best of health herself after having major knee surgery, then breaking her wrist  trying to look after him.

So, we've looked around and found him a place in a lovely home, where he is currently staying for a few weeks to familiarise with, whilst my mum gets some well deserved restbite. Shes gone away to stay with my sister for a week while me & me brother sort out dad.

Only been in a week and has rugby tackled another resident who tried to hit one of the nurses  then yesterday afternoon was caught trying to escape from a first floor window when his jumper got caught on the window latch as he was sidling along the flat roof 

Think the staff are gonna have their hands full with him 

Even though he is 'away with the fairys' for most of the time he's a very resourceful scheming little so & so and its frightening to think what he would be capable of.

I have been involved with nursing home arrangements and visits for over 2 years now and it is not for the faint hearted.

Just this afternoon I have written to the Head Office of my mum's care home group pointing out that all the new arrivals at her home have very demanding needs but the staffing profile remains based on 1 carer to 5 residents which was fine before but not now with this change in mix. I can see how stressed the staff are and they are also worried about  their jobs so I have taken this up on the basis of a resident's son.

Apparently this may be due to Care Quality Commission guidelines but I am not interested in letting it rest at that. Staff get stretched also taking residents to hospital when no family members available.

I've been in and out of them for the last 4 months with the mother in law after she had a fall and smashed her arm

My advise is, choose carefully and keep a eye open when you have chosen.

The missus and I are currently in the process of taking the 1st home the outlaw ended up in too court 
But on the other hand, the 2nd place was fantastic
