oil filter stuck on V6
« on: 20 April 2014, 15:59:50 »

serviced the 3.0 yesterday and the guys could not get the oil filter off, forcing it was making the filter housing move rather than the filter itself - so we left it on.

anyone had this on a V6 what is the way to sort this, and is the housing designed to unscrew if the filter is stuck to it? (its been on a few years by the looks of it).

You need to grip the filter housing with a strap wrench as you undo the end cap,and then when refitting do it up to 15nm.

The cap glues itself on with the oil from the last oil change in the threads, and heat from the engine.

Barely did mine up hand tight last time, but needed a longer bar and huge grunt to get the bugger off 3 months later.

Mine was the same.
I'm not putting up with that when a spin-on filter eliminates the problem. £12 well spent.

I never once, in all the oil changes I carried out over 10 years, did I have problems with the proper ally housing. It must be the way you're not hitting the 24mm(?) spanner  ::) ::) ::)

Maybe we were lucky, Andy?

After having to buy a strap wrench for my first oil change after the previous owner had had his air-gun on it I've never had an issue. Never torque it though. You can see when it nicks up.
