Remember the OPs car is a 2.2, not a V6 ::)

Trying to remember a 4 pot engine layout, and what could cause oil filter to get wet...

My recollection is that the oil filter on 2.0 and 2.0 is driver's side. There is a coiling water coil at the top of the oil filter unit on the 2.2. The HBV is at the back of the engine, head level, driver's side, and most easily seen/changed from below. If it is leaking I can see it doing it from below.

Waterpump gasket  :)
