As we apparently have some with considerable military expertise commenting here, I would be grateful to learn how the aircraft carriers are to assist our Government in complying with its first duty, defence of the realm? As I understand it,  aircraft carriers are primarily offensive weapons, and if they are to operate successfully in foreign climes, as they are designed to do, they will require considerable maritime support and defence, involving massive amounts of financial input. No doubt they will be very useful for involving us in yet more unnecessary Middle Eastern wars, but of very little use in defending us against maritime, particularly submarine, threats to our Island home. :y

It would have cost more in penalties to cancel them that it would to finish them.

And with loads of UK manufactured tech in them such as Rolls Royce engines, Converteam (now GE) motors, generators, drives, VMS and DP etc on board its all good.

As much as our members with a military background might not like the defence cuts which will continue, you HAVE to cut your cloth to suit....
