dti crank pulley
« on: 18 July 2014, 23:15:40 »

I guys, just got in after my dti crank pulley fell apart on the way back from a glorious day at Chessington zoo. Not a good end to the day!!

What I need to know is are they still readily available and approx how much? I guess it's not worth putting a used one on there?

Are there any know difficulties in changing one?

Many questions I know.

You know, that's just what I thought!!

Sitting in a major traffic jam on M25 due to an accident quite happily (nice and cool) after a rather hot day at Chessington when I heard a thump under the bonnet like the belt had come off. When I finally managed to pull over I lifted the bonnet to find the belt in one piece and half the pulley on the engine dirt tray. Thought B#####ks that's that then :'(

How much are they any idea (roughly)?

Take it car on ramp and as much leverage as poss!

Did it from the top :y Try the auto factor's or the Bay and you will find it a lot less than the £100's from the stealers

Cheers Joff.

Started looking last night and found some listed on auction site and will try local motor factors (SMF) when they open.

Just had to happen on a Friday on the M25! Found lots of info on how to change on this site so yep, seems fairly easy to do, just undoing the bolt may be a pain, we'll see!!

Do you need to be careful not to turn the engine anti clockwise to prevent the timing chain slipping?

Oh and you'll probably find you need a new tensioner as well.

Thanks for the replies.

Just come back from getting the pulley (non gen £89.51) but reading these last comments may mean there's more hassle/expense to come.

Priorities lunch first then start on the car.

Let the fun? commence.

Well done that and it was a bit of a nothing job to be honest.

Used an old welded up torque wrench that I now use as a breaker bar locked against the chassis leg and flicked the starter, hey presto loosened bolt. :)

Blimey the bolt is long! Thought it would never come out. Gave the tensioner a once over and found it had a knackered bush one end and was almost into the thread of the bolt. Something to watch out for. Found a bush from a tensioner damper I changed on my 2.5td lubed everything and now its all lovely smooth and quiet with good damping and very little play. :y

Lets see how long this pulley lasts!

Cheers for you help guys. :y
