BT Vision not so good
« on: 22 June 2008, 09:47:53 »

It's not all bad, but if you are considering getting BT vision then don't have high expectations.

You can't set reminders to watch shows.
Recordings often stop just before the end of the show.
It doesn't look as good as DTV direct on the TV, even through HDMI.
It reduces the antenna signal passed on to the tv.
Reception isn't as good as the TV.
You seem to have to have the Internet on to get the TV guide.
It doesn't fit 4x3 shows to widescreen.

OTOH;

It does have some interesting stuff on demand for free though, including tons of Fred Dibnah.
It is Free.
Much better than a VCR, especially if I can figure out how to set recording times manually.
I think it can record more than one show at a time.

Nah, I was never a fan of Vision.  Although I did build a few of the filestore servers for the VoD bit a few years ago  :-X.

Its a rather poor tuner/recorder, and, to be frank, the VoD bit is not really ideal for most of us due to bandwidth issues.

I'm sticking with my Media Center for now, though looking at ways of getting 5 FreeSat tuners in it ;)

I thought that you had to have a receiver, but recently I heard that any video card with S-video can be used to record?  Can't control the channels without a receiver though.

As a PVR the Pace Twin is much better, but BT Vision records two channels at once and of course VOD

I believe that the standard Nova-S cards can pick it up (and obviously control channels), but I have yet to find LP dual sat tuner cards (only have 3 PCI slots available
