What's happened to RAF Lyneham? 

If they developed that and built a Maglev train to London..... 

Being developed as a technical training school, and no chance of it ever being "developed" into a larger airport .... there were 2 runways.. 18/36  and 07/25.. so 4 "ends" .. at 2 of them, 36 & 25, were bloody big hills (one of which saved my life but that's another story) at the other 2, 18 & 07 were main roads / housing estates. That was part of the reason for the closure as the newer generation of aircraft need longer runways .. and Lyneham cannot be extended... (there used to be  3rd runway .. one end of which also had a big hill, the other points right at Quarters)

Well that quickly scuppered another harebrained idea!    Thanks for the explanation though, and it's good to hear it's being used for something useful.
