Help with some codes pleeeeease :)
« on: 25 September 2014, 13:55:00 »

Hi guys,

Mate's Renault Megane (53 plate) has an ABS light on. Pulled the code using my new Autel MD802  8)

Now I can check the sensor no probs but I cant check the air gap cos it's one of those that's hidden in the hub.

I hear a droning coming from that wheel. so I'm thinking it's either a goosed sensor or the wheel bearing gone (causing inconsistent air gap. What do you reckon? :)

Interesting Google search. The Renault forums seem to think it's a broken wire within the black sheath. I hope it's the abs sensor side and not the harness side as the abs sensors easily replaceable

Yes I would go with wiring damage as issues relating to reluctor rings etc. tend to flag bad/inconsistent signal codes.

legend, cheers mark  :y

if the sensors good and the break / damage is the harness side am I ok to cut in to it and repair? don't mind damaging the sensor (if I mess it up...plan not to tho) but am very nervous of a repair on the harness side

If it was an air gap issue Webby the light would normally go out on initial self test then flag up when driving as speed builds

Thanks for your input lads, really appreciate it.

Hopefully there'll be a noticeable chunk missing out of the wire on the sensor side that I can cut out and solder back together.....hopefully  ::)

Renault wiring is so poor that you'll find it hard to tell the difference!

Some advice from my (French) uncle given over 30 years ago: Never buy a *^~#ing Renault!

Do what the French do. Attach a Gitane to your bottom lip and shrug before kicking it and leaving it to rot by the side of the road. ;D

To be fair(and I hate doing that as it normally brings me out in a rash), they'd be leaving it at the side of the road 18months after the terminal death-rattle started. The mistake we make here with both French and Italian cars is to pamper them by rushing to the mechanic at the first sign of trouble.
