All they can do round here is paint the roughest roads with something akin to hammerite then throw chippings on it and let the cars do the job of a road roller. Needless to say the road is still just as rough (because they never fixed the underlying problem) and now has the added affects of A) chipping your car like a gigantic sandblaster and B) once all the chippings have gone your left with a shiny black ice like surface.

What a total waste of F'ing time.

They have just started messing with a large roundabout a mile  west of Southend on the main A127 . .  . which is the main road in & out of Southend . >:( >:( >:(

Apparently this work is to allow better access & exiting from the large Tesco store sited there  ::) ::)

"Expect delays until March 2015"  the signs say  >:( >:( >:( >:(

As an experiment about 3 years ago to "calm" the traffic ??? 2 lanes into a  very busy roundabout  were reduced to just 1 lane in both directions >:( to achieve this a keep right bollard was just planted at the end of the left most lane. Now every day for 3 years durin the rush hour. traffic now tails back a quarter mile or so in both directions. How does that help anyone ??? ??? ???

Noticed around Berkshire generally is this habit of removing roundabouts to put traffic lights in.

Thing is, iirc, about 15 years ago there was an opposite policy of removing traffic lights in favour of roundabouts. I'd go to work on me bike in the morning through traffic lights only to find a roundabout in its place on the way home.

I guess there's a surplus in that particular county council budget again this year. ....somehow.

Funny you should mention that, they altered the roundabout on Nottingham road going onto Ilkeston with an exit to Kirk Hallam and further on put in a roundabout for a new supermarket at the same time, more temporary lights than Blackpool. They are putting in  new approaches to the Bardill's roundabout on the A52, and Bramcote lane in Wollaton is closed while they do summat.   :( :( :(
