Following a review of the cctv and witness statements, he is receiving a written invitation to a private party at Crawley Police Station. Which is nice. Hopefully he'll shit a brick when he opens the invite.

Should he decline to attend, then he will be getting a lift there in a blue and yellow taxi, which will take some explaining

I say sue the little shit. You have documented evidence from both  CCTV and the police. There are plenty of 'no win no fee' solicitors who may be interested in your case.
