Strange computer happening
« on: 28 April 2015, 20:54:59 »

Just went open a programme via a desktop icon, and had an error message 'unexceptional something or other. It named the icon path, which was 'C/Program files'
When I went to the C drive, I noticed that the folder was missing in Program Files. I also noticed under C drive, another folder has mysteriously appeared called '32bit user files, and in it are a number of folders containing files that won't open from desktop icons, or the programs wont work, obviously due to the path change.
How can this happen.......I have done a System Restore, all folders are back where they are supposed to be and icons working. The new folder is still there, but I will delete that.
But, as I said....what can move folders from their original position to a new folder  ??? ??? ???

No one else uses it, Al. Swmbo would not be able to switch it on ;D

Could a virus do it. I have MES installed. never had a problem before. I have run ADW cleaner, that did not find anything either. :(

In Windows Explorer as you move the mouse pointer, you accidently momentarily click the mouse button, which picks up the file and drops it into another folder as you release the button. Not that I've ever done this of course. :-X :-[ :-[ :-[

On a server it is also very easy to do in an FTP program like FileZilla. Not that I've ever done that one either.  :-X :-[ :-[ :-[

From experience I'm now more careful, by making sure I don't run the mouse point down a column of folders, but to the left or right of them. :y :y :y

Firewall? Non-default password set on ADSL router? Open wifi link? Running remote desktop software? To name but 4 possible vulnerabilities.

The extra folder that has appeared, have you checked the files it contains creation date and time and done a search on Google for the file names to see if they are known virus filenames? An unprecedented amount of malware is being released daily at the moment with antivirus programs struggling to keep up, so many will slip through the antivirus scan net. :(

This week Russian hackers have got into an unclassified email system in the Whitehouse using two unknown vulnerabilities.

For some reason....a folder was created called 32bit users, and the folders inside it were legit folders, about 8 of them, from either C or C/Program files. Some were folders containing exe. files and programmes, some were just containing Excel or Word files. Tom Tom Home was one that got moved, as did one called HCASC which contained the Community Centre files. So why these specific files were chosen, who knows.
