Auto gear lever gaiter replacement
« on: 14 June 2015, 10:54:04 »

Am I correct that I have to remove the auto gear lever to replace the gaiter satisfactorily? If so perhaps I wont bother, as I understand it involves drilling rivets out etc. :-\

Why?

Just cut the stitches at the top of the gaiter and pull it(and the plastic housing that clips into the console) off.

Then pry out the staples and peel the gaiter away from the housing.

After that you get to play about with glue to attach the new gaiter.

Once that's done, drop the assembly back over the lever, clip the housing in place and secure the top of the gaiter in place with a cabletie /wire/cord as you consider appropriate.

That's making it difficult, especially as you don't need to reuse the old gaiter.

Although it would still be easier/quicker to cut it off, and restitch it rather than dismantle the gearlever!
