Improved coil pack location
« on: 12 July 2015, 17:13:12 »

I bought this car 8 days ago from a man who bought it in Portugal to get his caravan and family home. It a RHD PFL 2.5 petrol CDX estate. An enterprising local mechanic changed the coil pack for him. Look where he put it.

Acess is not that bad with scuttle off, changed a few before.

That's a fantastic location for it.  No water ingress issues to deal with.  :y

If the scuttle is leaking it will still drip on the cam covers and plug leads anyway. Better to seal the scuttle than bugger about with this idea. Just as easy to spill oil over it while topping up.

Original coil pack is still present. Easier to install there, but needed new plug leads as runs are longer. Location is insecure, pack is just jammed between oil filler and power steering reservoir. Car passed MOT on arrival in UK, so does not look too bad to a tester.

I think someone did similar but fixed the coil pack on the opposite side near the air box  :-\

Agreed re sealing the scuttle, but credit where it's due... Not a bad shout, but could be better positioned/secured, although loom might be the limiting factor when it comes to final location :-\

A bit like our American cousins HBV relocation relocation...

Can't argue with that, but once that damn scuttle is sealed, why rip it out to get to the DIS?  When I had 3.0's, I was looking to relocate the bloody thing.

3.2's, I just sealed the scuttle and wiped away the leaves which gathered every now and then.

Well naturally the superior 3.2 as the way to go. ;)

Fixed for accuracy ;)

I'm not going to bang on about my SAAB again, but you boys keep playing with your underpowered 6 pots, and I'll have fun in my stupidly overpowered 4 pot (sewing machine as the wife calls it).
