Well I guess they knew the risks before taking part. 

In a macabre sort of way I'd like to see a bullfight and also the running of the bulls at Pamplona (from a balcony!  ), but yes it's pretty barbaric really!

I once went a watched a bullfight in the South of France. It is too one sided for my liking and when the bulls get their own back a bit, good luck to them.

Much better to watch in the same arena was when they had a rodeo and then audience participation against the bulls with various challenges and prizes. This appealed to the youngsters and was a good demonstration of how fast they could run and how high they could jump to safety.
