What the peple want versus what the council want.....
« on: 17 August 2015, 22:10:40 »

I had an email today from Breakeryard.com, regarding a news item:-

http://www.breakeryard.com/blog/cardigan-proves-parking-impacts-economy/?utm_source=Customers-10-2013&utm_campaign=a8fbaf0fd6-August_2015_P_to_Z_Newsletter_2015&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_c085751039-a8fbaf0fd6-77727197

Despite local people having shown that they clearly want these restrictions removed - they have voted with their cars - and local traders having benefitted too, they are determined to re-instate these unwanted motorist-milking machines. Think of the money they would save by not having to buy new machines and also not needing to pay staff to service and empty them....
I could understand it if the article also reported parking chaos and/or massive congestion in the town as a result of there being no restrictions, but the report did not suggest this; presumably because the machines in question were actually in car parks and not on the street?

Of course, the townspeople OWN the car parks anuway, so why should they be charged a parking fee for using what they already own?

Here in town all council car parks are free for first 2hrs.You still have to go to machine and enter reg.number of vehicle press appropriate button and out pops free ticket to display in windscreen.Oddly enough since this scheme came into force the town centre trade has picked up no end :y

Parking in the towns/cities here (excepting Leeds, Sheffield and York) is about £1 an hour. If you can't afford that, you not gonna save the high street with your purchasing power, are you?

Lets be honest....that is normal British politics, whether starting as Parish Council, or through to Parliament.
'We do as we want, not what you, the people, want' >:(

Mr. Terbert, of course I did know the reason - they are NOT here to serve us and the term Civil Servsnt is a complete misnomer - they do not serve and are rarely civil!
I wonder if you recall a news item a year or so ago when the traffic wardens in St. Albans all went on strike and parking was a complete free-for-all?
Did the city come to a grinding halt, chaos and carnage everywhere? Nope, it managed very well, far better than normal, with people able to do what they wanted without hassle.

On a personal basis,I absolutely loathe my local council, all they are is a bunch of suited and booted scam artists operating under the fascade of respectability. They are takers not givers and they are constantly finding  new ways of bending you over for more money....come the revolution brothers : ::):)they are high on my pay back list.....can't wait :y

May not be necessary, there's a lot of talk around, about there being corruption in the council i.e sweetners and funny handshakes with the developers of the planned 3000+ houses and a relief road that are in the process of being built, mainly on agricultural land. When it's gone it's gone, and we'll be importing more food products from Europe causing higher levels of pollution/damage to our imports and of course our roads, which of course we will be picking up the repair bills etc....going to stop the rant now as the matron says me tablets and teas ready and I've got to stop getting excited as I won't be allowed to play with my Omega later on :)

The good people of grimethorpe and brierley have just had a vote on the future of Brierley parish council. They employed a finance officer who, very cleverly, defrauded them/us of nearly two million pounds. She was jailed, bit it turns out she'd done it before. Barnsley MBC bailed them out, but we got a precept of £125 a year on our council tax to pay it back.
Anyhows......we voted to abolish the parish council and, when next time Barnsley has a full cabinet meeting, they have vowed to respect our wishes and pick up the tab. We will see.
