Life should mean life with no chance of parole, early release or any other shenanigans designed to let  people out who should remain incarcerated for the rest of their life

We used to have a failsafe method to stop re-offending for murderers.

And then we became civilised.   

I'd like to see how civilised you felt towards someone who killed your mother/wife/kid.

If someone's on the run knowing that if caught, theyre facing a death sentence, then they have nothing to lose. The risk of them killing more people to keep their freedom is then higher. Doesn't stop people murdering in the USA...

But there's the thing.  It's only expensive because we make it expensive.  A bare cell, with basic food dosn't have to cost much. 

I bet those Penitentiaries in the US with the rows of cells with bars on the front don't cost much.

California is a 'Namby Pamby' state!     Texas does it for $21,390, Louisiana does it for $17,486 and Kentucky does it for $14,603! 

If you're gonna go to Jail in the States make sure its in New York where they'll spend $60,076 banging you up for a year! 

Of course the costs of banging people up depend on the prison population as a whole, so California has a much larger prison population than Kentucky. 167276 Vs 21,347.

House prices out there (I look from time to time) are depressing - so cheap for what is effectively a mansion.. damn them. Anyhoo.. back to hangings and so on.
