AA membership, not necessarily to fix or diagnose anything, simply to get it dragged home... so that I can fix the bloody thing ::)

This... If its something I can't deal with at the side of the road. Otherwise it's just the usual amount of tools in the boot  :y

Agreed, it's the 'get you and your vehicle home' reason that I have RAC cover for our cars.

Yep, same here.  :y
I chose AA relay as a few years back a lot of outfits would only take you to a garage within ten miles, which is no good when you have a caravan on the back.
Getting us and the car home is my biggest priority, I can deal with the car in my own time then.  :y

Be careful with AA relay .. they have some weird rules/restrictions on caravans, weights and lengths .. all buried in the small print. One that I remember, and why I moved .. if the car breaks down they will recover it, and (mostly) the caravan .. but if the caravan breaks down ... lets say a puncture that damages the hub/bearing whatever) they won't .. the 'van is only recovered if "towable" behind the broken down car on a transporter.

That is why I changed to Green Flag through the caravan club Mayday policy ... car and van covered at all times, will take me to the holiday and back if it can't be fixed, no problems on length or weight. With "personal cover" we are also both covered in anyone elses car as well ...

HTH  :)

Cheers for that Nige but I've actually got it in writing as I was aware of what you are saying, and as it was a large caravan I was concerned regarding their recovery rules. It was Green Flag that I left because of the ten mile business, but not Mayday admittedly, and it was a few years back now.  :y  We've sold our caravan now but others may need to heed your warning.  :y
I have it writing that if the car fails they will recover the car and tow the van, or if the van fails and they can get it on a flatbed they will recover the van and we follow in the car. Sounds easy, but as you know, the caravan would probably be towed on a greased ball and me having a piece of paper may count for jack in reality.  :-\

Having seen this from the other side, I have to agree with Nigel; if you tow a caravan, sort your recovery through the Caravan Club as it gives you a load of extra features that 'ordinary' Green Flag cover doesn't give. Things like returning your caravan to a different address to your car, or taking your rig to your holiday destination and taking you home afterwards.
