Hose clip pliers
« on: 17 July 2008, 20:04:12 »

I'm fed up with trying to use mole grips, long nose pliers etc etc and knackering the clips eventually, so I'm looking to buy some pliers....

are these the sort of thing I need ??

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CLIC-CLIP-PLIERS-4-SNAP-CLIP-HOSE-CLIPS-ON-HOSES-ETC_W0QQitemZ170237353761QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item170237353761&_trksid=p3286.m14.l1318

or would these be better ??

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LONG-REACH-HOSE-SNAP-CLIP-PLIERS-USED-ON-ROVER-BMW-ETC_W0QQitemZ250268115184QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item250268115184&_trksid=p3286.m14.l1318

There seem to be rather a lot of different types, but I'm guessing "clic" or "clic-r" is the correct description ??

Mike Dundee bought some of those. He said they were rubbish.  :( I always use water pump pliers, they seem fine and I've not knackered a clip yet.  :)

I have basically the 1st pair...

Find them very handy, but not perfect.

Great for most the clips, including the funny little ones on the washer pipes.

Not the most easy things to use in confined spaces though, When I did HBV, great for getting clips off, but couldnt get the angles to put them back on, where tiny long nose vice grips did the job.

If mine broke, I would replace them, a good addition to your toolkit imho.

Without dout.
Plenty here:
http://www.screwfix.com/cats/A335533/Hand-Tools/Pliers-Cutters/Water-Pump-Pliers

They do this:
Have parallel jaws to match the clip tabs when the cip is open.
Have a huge mechanical advantage over pliers.
Give you the grip to manipulate the clip while you have hold of it.

The tool for the job...

I have both pairs mentioned the first set is for the clips normaly on the breather hoses, the second set is for the hard to reach hose clips like HGV hose clips. I was shown how the second set work by Timbuk :y, they're fine, despite what Golfbuddy said I said :y.........No doubt the original post will get dragged up now ;D ;D

You clearly failed to mention that the tool was fine, it was the user that was rubbish then.  ;D ;D

Nevertheless, I still use waterpump pliers and find them perfect.  :y
