Started the car up tonight a 2.2i auto, no probs drove 200 yards to clock out turned the car off and when i went to start it it turned over without firing tried again sounded quite fast again eventually started but no throttle response,pressing the throttle done nothing. This is the second time this has done this recently.

Any ideas cheers Alan.

Throttle body cleaning is first port of call, followed by a clean of the breather system

Cam Sensor is another possibility, clean the throttle body and go from there. Need to get a code reader on it too  :y

Had a code reader on it p0650 and p1650 pending for both codes.

Is it high mileage?

Could be 'bore wash' where the strong fuel mix needed to run the cold engine washes all the oil off the cylinder walls, if the engine is switched off before it gets past the initial strong fuel mix then you get low compression when you try to restart it and then engine turns over very quickly on the starter compared to normal.  The old straight 6 Carltons/Senators were guilty of this from around 150k onwards.

Not sure how that would relate to the lack of throttle response though - do you have to let it run for a bit and it comes back?

You've flooded it.

Cranking it over with the throttle wide open might help, although pulling either the fuel pump fuse or relay(whichever is easiest) first is more effective.

If it's really bad you'll need to clean and dry the plugs. Worn plugs are one of the causes of this; replacing them would be sensible.

The real solution is to get out of the habit of turning the engine off immediately after starting it.

Sounds like it to me too. Apparently number one call out around Christmas time when cars are moved from a drive etc to let another car out and switched off when still on 'choke'

Thanks for the response guys, sjc 108k on the clock and to be honest dont think the car has had a service for a while. Time to spend some cash,also will let the car run while clocking out.
