The long-forgotten Malcolm Uphill managed the first 100 MPH lap on a production bike way back in 1968.

A bog stock Triumph Bonneville 650, apparently.

....sorry 1969 not 1968.

The 'Bonnie' was shod with Dunlop K81 tyres. After his achievement the name was changed to Dunlop TT100.

Ring a bell?

.....

Having owned a Vitesse and two 827's I agree, they weren't the best handling cars out there :o :y

The biggest problem  had with the courtesy 827 was understeer, if you planted it at a roundabout, the car would just go in a straight line irrespective of which way the steering was pointed ..... and it had the turning circle of Amoco Cadiz  ;D

Got an 827 as a hire car on a business trip when I was "young and stupid" (was supposed to have got a Ford Escrot but they'd run out. Shame!).

I think that trip up the M54 is still the fastest I've ever been in a car on a public road. Luckily it was 'kin early in the morning, as I needed both lanes. ::)

Watched the superbike TT,Dunlop in a class of his own.First  sub 17min lap for an average of just over 133mph :o and he followed it up by going faster still :o :o :o How much faster can they go?On the downside of course there was the news that a sidecar rider has lost his life :'(

Thats pretty impressive but so is this     https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5NEskpWsMkI

Tony Pond in a stock Rover 827 vitesse averaging over 100mph over the TT course :y :y

That was not a straight off the, forecourt rover, it went to ST first.

Was it Tony Pond who used to drive that supped up metro with half a Jaguar XK220 engine in it  :-\

What.....a three cylinder Metro. ::) ::) ::) :) ;)

Alright, so I cant count  :P :P
Half the turbo's  then  ;D ;D

The metro you refer to was a 6R4, the engine started out as a 220jag engine, had two cyls lopped off, then ws redesigned, as a new V6, then turbo'd, a supercharged version was tested, when on song 6r4  O-60 was 3.1 sec's.
Top speed was allegedly with long tarmac setup was 189.!

Yep never seen a standard 827 Vitesse corner so flat - I had a company 827 Vitesse and that rolled like hell if pushed through the twisty bits!
