Gearbox selector switch
« on: 13 November 2016, 13:03:45 »

Afternoon all,

I have posted a few items regarding the gearbox on my omega, it had a replacement selector switch installed was working ok on a short test drive, last couple of weeks it would seem that if you put it on drive it would show 3, if you put it back on park then it would show reverse and the lights would flicker about but eventualy show correct gear. Now the car seems to drive fine, if you put it on drive it will show 3 at first but within seconds correspond back to show drive.

Also the snow button isnt working aswell, now could it be that the gear led panel is faulty and its just that? as l said the car is going into the correct gear and driving well but the lights on panel are just messing about, no warning lights on dash or anything.

I am waiting for a forum member to get back to me, but any thoughts out there :-[

Please read the manual regarding snow button... It doesn't work as you might expect ;)

This is actually really good news, it just needs a tiny bit of adjustment :y

The adjustment that needs doing, does it mean l have to take off the switch again or the connector?

If it's to what the other replies are referring, the adjustment is a quadrant / slice of pie-shaped affair on the side of the gearbox with an armoured cable/loom leading into it, which you undo the cover plate, and give a little tweak, so as to allow the rods/linkages to line up correctly with the connectors (these connectors will be apparent/obvious when you open it up. Looks like a giant PCB.

If memory serves you can adjust the linkage so as to line up right, by the sounds of it it's currently slightly overlapping between 'D' and '1', etc... They can also get gunged up and require cleaning, so worth breaking it apart even if this isn't the issue.  :)
