Well said. Work visas for those we really need, is a different thing to our elected Govt. having no say or control on who arrives and stays in the UK.
Its called self governance and democracy. Infinitely more important than economic matters.  :y

I[and a good number of others]used to loiter on the street at daft o'clock in the mornings waiting for the lorries to come by and pick us up to go potato or pea picking and the like,it was pretty hard going especially to begin with and there were times I thought I'd never be able to walk upright ever again :D but when all was said and done at the end of the day I'd got cash in my pocket and that was what it was all about! If you wanted summat you had to get out there and damn well earn it because no-one was going to hand it to you on a plate.

In my experience of casual farm work 30 years ago I never of or  met an eastern European doing the job.
I spent a lot of my childhood in fenland, and there were a lot of non UK workers, such as eastern Europeans and west Indians. All hard workers, as were the brits doing the same job.

But I think you've hit nail on head with "encouraging" the spongers to work, by showing the alternative is to starve.
