Idler arm parts
« on: 09 March 2017, 08:48:49 »

I'm doing the preparations for chaning the idler arm, and wanted to check two items, from the picture in link:

- item 13 - cap, no.90305712
- item 18 - washer, no.90538145

http://ecat24.com/opel/catalog/part/1/30/472/4398/34673,34672,34668/

Are these just plain washers? What dimensiosn?

Thing is, my steering arm has been changed and reworked for several times over the years, and I'm not sure if I have all the parts on it at the moment. And I want to make a correct assemby this time.

Here is an interesting photo - just to show the difference between OEM and pattern:
- upper one is a replacement (FEBI)
- lower one is original GM

Also, cap (item 13 in OP) is shown.

OK, I think I've got it.
Item 13 is shown on previous photo, and item 18 is a plain washer, and it seems that I have all that parts.

Now - which method of ball joint breaking (idler to central rod joint) has proven to be better:

a) bar between chassis and central tie rod (pushing tod downwards), and hitting the idler arm (which is still mounted to the chassis) UP near the ball joint (aka Ronald McBurger method)

pics showing where to hammer here (but the bar is in the wrong place)

b) method from maintenance guide (Marks DTM method)

BTW - this is two hammers method:
