Afternoon/evening spent getting stuck in. So far removed the following:

Intercooler plumbing
Throttle body
Wiring
Thermostat housing
Starter motor
Coolant bridge
Coils
High pressure fuel pump, rail and injectors
Vacuum pump
Turbo heat sheild

I can now see the cam cover bolts ;D stupid French POS.

It would be nice to get the head off tomorrow but we'll see what the car thinks about that.

Day 2:

Crank pulley bolt removed. Eventually.
Crank and Water pump pulleys removed.
Engine mount
Timing cover
Cam covers
Inlet manifold

All the mayonnaise removed as I have taken bits off.

Kinda stuck at the exhaust manifold as I can't see how it was assembled. :-\

AS its a French POS it will have a bracket that you have to remove to get to the exhaust but you have to remove the exhaust to get to the bracket bolts-------------------

How did you know ;D

Today's primary job is to remove the cat to gain access to the lower turbo heat shield to gain access to three of the exhaust manifold lower bolts.

Then get the timing set, remove the chain, cams and finally the head...

Ok, I confess... I didn't get the exhaust off.

Head is stripped ready to come off with the exception of the exhaust, and it's only two nuts securing it, but in order to get at them, I need to get the cat off to get the heat sheild off to get the turbo oil lines off to get at them. And quite frankly having spent two days shredding my arms bent over the damn thing, I really couldn't be arsed.

Next days off will be getting it high enough to get underneath and strip the rest of the under tray and attack the exhaust*... Then perhaps I can get the head off.

*Note to self: I must NOT cut it off.

May I suggest some petrol and a match.

They are god awful cars, and use mostly french shite on it.  Nobody can love one, not even owners who buy them new.  Its a sure sign that an individual has given up.

If someone were to steal it off the drive, it wouldn't be disappointing. The plan is, if the head/block isn't obviously cracked, to slap it back together and drive it straight down to WBAC

I was about to say....................I can recommend two brands for sorting any issues with one of those contraptions. Swan Vesta or Bryant & May.  :D

Got back from Nairobi this morning. It's still here.

Got an ear infection so won't be going underneath it this week.

I'd say that was pretty lucky if you went to Nairobi and all you got was an ear infection.  >:D

Manifold finally freed. Had to split the turbo to allow something vaguely resembling access having first dropped the cat.

Damn thing has fought every time I looked at it, but...

Head is now off :D

Block is true, head less so. Got a 0.013mm crown centred between #2 and 3. Both cylinders spotless which is itself a bit of a clue. Need to research to see if that distortion is acceptable (obviously from the evidence presented, it isn't).

Also, there was an as yet unidentified plastic piece in the block adjacent to #1. From the shape of the machining of the water jacket, it belongs there but from the state of the piece, it is melted.
