RIP my Omega
« on: 30 September 2008, 19:51:00 »

Finally, my omega has died, it failed it's final mot in spectacular style with emissions over 3 times the legal limit!  :o   Even after giving it a complete intake clean, checking every pipe, hose and clip.  Making sure all were clear, something major has killed it off.
I'm not that unhappy as it has served me well for over 5 years without any major problems, only simple ones, umm like a blown fuse which kept it off the road for 2 months whilst I tried to find out what sensor had gone!! ::)  I will be breaking the good bits off and will probably scrap whats left, if anyone is interested, let me know.
Many thanks to everyone who has helped me out with the few problem I have had, you help was valuable to me and is much appreciated, whilst I will still drive a Vauxhall, it'll now be a corsa from now on, tiny after the omega but way cheaper to run!

Again thanks to all,  Mark  :y

Emissions problems are normally down to something simple but do require a sound approach to fault finding. I wouldn't be so hasty to send it to the crusher, TBH. A few hours spent investigating would probably fix it.

I've removed my hat & bowed my head in respect of your sad loss. :'(
   5 yrs. service with few problems sounds good to me.

  Smaller doesn't necessarily mean cheaper. ::) :-/

Kevin, I had checked and cleaned every part of the emissions on the intake side before the mot knowing that they could be high.  Trouble is I'm sure that the problems causing the high reading and they are very high, are mechanical and it has been using around a litre of oil every month, tbh I really cannot afford to throw more money, already £800 over 2 years 4 tyres new complete exhaust.  Plus the rear of the chassis is beginning to rot badly which might be able to be welded, needs a complete renewal of brake pipes plus a few other things not quite so major.

Heh I did think about a nice v6 but I cannot justify it when I only need a runabout.  :(

Unfortunatly I have to agree with you mate.  Sometimes a car really is beyond economical repair and by the looks of it, repairs will possibly cost you the value of the car  :(

true enough, value of car between 150 & 350 tops, to get it sorted will definately cost more than that, done my research already.

TD will the pump from a old 2lt fit yours?
