MPS in cloud-cuckoo land
« on: 24 October 2008, 23:42:55 »

I guess many of you know my stance on this global warming issue. However, whatever your take on the subject, I would urge you to read this link, written by Philip Stott*. It's knowing that there are people like him around that keep me sane.

How will your local MP be voting?

*Philip Stott is Emeritus Professor of Biogeography at London University, so he's no bonehead.  :y

Couldn't get the link to open -- but assume the Phil Stott view is that the global warming we are to experience is the subject of natural changes and weather cycles -- not our carbon emissions.

Much like the ice age wasn't brought on by dinasour industrial activity ::)

If that is the case I tend to agree ... however we aren't helping matters and should still be environmenally aware.

If the government really want to help save the planet (global warming apart) they should invest (could invest) in making our individual efforts easier to access and maintain. For instance, pay for decent recycling operations by local authorities (as opposed to the half assed ones they operate now), take the tax off LPG and reinstate conversion grants, take the VAT off energy saving items, etc. etc.

I agree that we should be being more aware of any damage we do to the environment
Bit of change to original post subject but thought I'd get on my highhorse about all governments wasting money.

To cut USA carbon emissions by 95% will take £4trillion dollars over next 30 years, according to what i read in New Scientist.
The real cost to the USA for the war in Iraq is,according to Nobel prize winner for Economics Joseph Stiglitz, either £2trillion if they withdraw by 2011 or £3trillion if they withdraw by 2017.I think that kind of money could be well spent elsewhere.I'll just get down now from my highhorse.
