if you dont have full bike licence, you need to do cbt, then full test with 2yrs

If you have a bike licence then nothing, if not then you need to fit L plates and pass a CBT course. And of course you need a lid and clothing.

You will need to take a CBT (cumpulsary bike training) as you first step this will allow you ride as a learner for two years.

you might have "grandfather" rights and it be on your licence. Otherwise its a CBT. But i believe its all recently changed regarding CBT e.g length of course and what happens on it. Hope that helps. :y

EDIT: Damn. need to type faster  ::) ;D

things have moved on from my day, but i believe practical and written tests are involved these days, followed by a fixed period to pass the the full test or similar, Tunnies been on the that trail recently i believe?

far to slow...again!

cbt mate. will cost around £100. takes a full day, morning in class room doing theory stuff then afternoon learning to ride ( normally on a carpark or school play ground) then its off out for about an hr on the roads just to show you can handle a bike. lets you ride anything upto a 125cc or 11kw for 2 years on l plates then either take full bike test or re-do cbt.

Mr Smug here.....I did my bike test on a GS550 while you could still get away with a sidecar attached. Nearly wet myself laughing when the examiner made me do the slow riding bit...had to keep catching him up. Passed (surprise surprise) and managed to wait almost a week before I took the chair off to ride it solo.
