No doubt a quick one for the Queen of knowledge but I cant find the answer anywhere....
On the boat hull I am using glycerophthalic paint onto which I was hoping to put a layer of Epoxy to increase the protection for the paint. After which I was going to put several layers of varnish.
My question is, will the epoxy bond to the glycerophthalic paint and will it pool like water on an oily sirface?
very many thanks in advance
I would contact the paint manufacturer for advice on compatability....failing that, a test using the appropriate substrate, glycerophtalic paint and epoxy (allowing for a fully oxidised cure before applying the epoxy top-coat over the paint).
The mechanical bond twixt the paint and epoxy-matrix will be poor and the chemical bond (likely) of low compatability for long term surety.
Although on the face of it the concept is good; I would ask the paint maker first and even then think twice, as it`ll be a bugger to sort later if the combo proves unsuitable.
Personally, I`d go with just the paint and varnish and skip the epoxy element.
