Just been fined for lost sorn in post.
« on: 12 January 2009, 15:32:56 »

Currently have my grey omega stored in the garage, been there 3 years now and have sorned it every year so far. or so I thought!!

I just had a letter through from dvla telling me they didnt recieve my sorn form or tax application and have charged me £40 plus 30.84 for the tax between 11/08 til 01/08

when taking my money she suggested I do it online from now on and keep the confirmation emails.

arghhh thats 70.84 down the ruddy pan!!

I would ask them to prove you haven't sent a SORN in.

then they'll just ask you to prove you did. i always send important like that by recorded delivery. may cost a few extra quid but at least you can prove that you have indeed sent it.

Yes but they have failed to close the loop on this so far. If they can't prove that you didn't send it then they can't fine you.

I have had this with them before and I have never paid a fine.

This has happened to me twice! And on both occasions they have said it is my fault if i don't recieve a letter from them! Because if they don't send me a letter it is my responsibility to remind them. What a set of (insert appropriate 4 letter word here)!

Both occasions i fough and argued and everytime they handed me over to a debt collection agency.
