We were watching Noel's HQ tonite and heard the following:

After losing both legs to an anti-tank mine while serving in Afghanistan, 20-year-old Joe Townsend was trying his best to rebuild his life.

And after 20 operations in hospital, the Royal Marine’s grandfather gave him the best possible incentive to get better.

David Carter decided to build a modest bungalow on land near the home he shares with his wife Lynda, 60, to help Joe become more independent. It seemed the perfect solution.

But the council disagreed. Joe’s bungalow would be ‘intrusive’, planners said. And anyway, his case was not exceptional enough for them to waive strict laws and allow the bungalow to be built.

This decision must be overturned and common sense must prevail over petty regulations.

Joe's family have set up a facebook page containing a petition to the Prime Minister which is a way of getting the local council's decision overturned. Quite frankly, its in semi rural land, owned by his grandparents and well, is not intrusive on anything. The council's replies to the programmes enquiries were down right rude, and totally disrespectful to the needs of this young man (and his right to be able to build a home to help him get on with his life).

I hope you will look at the facebook page and sign up to the petition to the Prime Minister.  Then perhaps a council can for once, be made to listen and simply do what is right.

As a few members are "In The Job" and i'm Ex RE, this is close to my heart.

People my not agree with the troops being out in Afganistan, but they are and doing a GREAT job in such conditions.

It make me mad that Council Pig Ignorance can stop a "HERO" putting his life back together.

Common sense (decency) prevails  -but just why cant the right decisions be made in the first place?

 These people are hero's!!  they put their lives on the line for their country
 I have maximum respect for anyone who has served in our armed forces and feel we should  thank our lucky stars that there are people out there willing to put their lives on the line for their country and the people in it .

 we should treat these people with respect  and not let red tape and green belt bullshit stand in the way of  a man who needs a small house built for his disability furthermore  perhaps if our soldiers were properly equiped in "the field" we would have less casualties to deal with at home.

i am going to stop there before i turn this into a rant but needless to say its something i feel strongly about

In over 20 years of watching Noel Edmonds on TV, I have never seen Noel lose his temper (he's always acted with very good grace in some quite testing situations) but when he read out Wealsdens  press Officer's comment that he wouldn't respond to enquiries from an 'Entertainment programme' he was definitely (and deservedly) in a strop.  

Even more amusing, the BBC cut out part of what he said although you can see the full version in a link on the website (see above link) when the programme was broadcast.  I do agree completely with comments here and with what Noel said.  Thank you to those of you who have responded, even though it does look like the situation is on its way to being resolved, its a good idea to keep an eye on it as I feel while we all complain about what is wrong in this country, its up to us as individuals to make sure sense does prevail against this kind of bureaucracy.

I hope Joe does not feel so forgotten now.
