Timin Belt Question
« on: 08 March 2009, 23:00:15 »

Back in October 2005 My omegas cambelt snapped (Tensioner Failiure)

anyway the previous owners paid Inchape Vauxhall of Exeter to fix the miggy they charged £2200! on the recipt it says FYI Newer Type Belt & Tensioner Fitted Replacement Interval 80k/8Yrs not 40k/4yrs

should i disregard this info and stick to 40k?

Yup, it's a LOT cheaper and easier to fit a cambelt kit than repair an engine that's had one fail.

Disregard that advice unless you want to risk your pistons and valves having a fight! :o

Tom my belt is overdue so we should have a mini Hereford cambelt party and split the cost of locking kit hire ;)

ill buy the spanner and we can split the cost of a cam locking tool!

Spring will be here soon so longer days and warmer weather

saves me paying Mr Mcoll £300 to change the belt!

Vauxhall have several times increased the service interval to 80k/8yr it would seem (most likely to please the fleet companies), but always seem to lower back down again to 40k/4yrs.

Whether this is a clever marketing ploy, or just responding to failure rates, only they can answer.
