Could the forum have an auto resize feature for avatars, or not allow linking to one outside the dimensions?

we did, but it caused issues so had to be turned off  :y

No!!   ;D

I'm not clever enough to sort that one so have to use the old persuassion tactic instead!!

 ;D

Ok fair enough. I don't know how much control the admins have over customisation of the code and I though a bit or Perl or PHP could handle it, but as you say first try (gentle?) persuasion!

Oh, believe me, we have clever folks here who could rewrite all manner of things but, personally, I'm more of a whitworth spanner/lump hammer type rather than a software engineer, if you follow....   ;D

....a rare vintage indeed H21 :y

For andy b - try this mate    - thats the right size.  Right click it and you can save it to your local drive, rename it and then upload to where ever you like :y

As I've already said, i am no computer tech by any manner of means, but know that the software we use on OOF was able to cope with abstract avatar sizings until one update where it all went the shape of the pear and we had to conform to size guidelines.  I know that some are outside the max sizings (like mine by 2 thou') but, ultimately, some that are in use are extreme to say the least.....  We do not have an issue with those that are within a handfull of whats asked, to be honest.  Its those that are WAAAAY outside that we have issues with!

The larger sizes cause havok with a number of users, in particular those who log on via their mobiles or PDA's.  I only really came to realise this fully when I started to log on via my phone on a regular basis, hence the personal interest.

Thanks in advance to those who have already managed to do something with theirs, just a pity you simply took the ultimate option with yours, dave.  Its been a regular sight on here, as your say, from the earliest days of OOF and it was a pity that you used the ultimate sanction....   :-/

Following on from Entwood's offer I'd also be happy to help any other OFF members who would like an avatar either amended or created. Send me a pm and I'll see if I can help. :y :y
