When I was working for the 'Man' it was convention to use handwriting, delivered by fountain pen, on the salution and endings on the typed body of official reports and letters.

I always used ruby red ink for this purpose until I received a rather snotty missive from a DCS  asking me to stop. ' It must be black or blue, without exception!'

He would never explain why so I started to use green ink instead. ;D

The result was the beginning of a relationship liberally doused in mutual loathing ;) ;)

I did ask around various departments but never found a reasonable answer. :-/

I still do, at times I want to be really snobbish  ::) :D .... and somewhat up myself  :o

:-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ I still do it HC - hard to break to habit of  a lifetime and yes I still seal the envelope with wax  :-[ :-[ :-[

After that revelation I might well need a short time for reflection ;D ;D :-/ :-/ :-/

......I do as a matter of fact Gareth but not with the R, it's the initial letters of a Latin term (S V N C ) on a winged banner which sits at the base of an altar, topped by a cross and which is meant to depict the Holy Trinity.

In that I have given in to modern times ( although I have a seal and wax in a dusty drawer somewhere )  I have a roll of vinyl stickers to seal "important" missives, with the old COA emblazoned thereon --- wax tends to get smashed in these new-fangled sorting machines !!!!
