How DARE they preach to us about the obvious when they cant even do it themselves.......?

The idiot responsible should be punished in exactly the same way as a member of the public would have been if they had murdered 2 dogs.......

Interesting that you can call every single copper in Nottinghamshire Constabulary "arrogant" because ONE of their number made a mistake

I find some of the self-righteous comments being made here more than a little arrogant themselves.

I'm really impressed that so many OOF'ers are such paragons of virtue that they have never ever made a mistake..... or do I detect some pretty severe hypocrisy going on.

Speaking from experience of Notts Police, they are arrogant.....

The Police HAVE to be arrogant and cocksure, it would be no good if they were all like Norris of Corrie now would it ? Everybody makes mistakes...

....only the inexperienced or the stupid, Bent Valve.

In my own experience I have always found that officers taking such a stance were always open to some form of undesirable reaction or other.

There is a world of difference between rank stupidity and being firm and assertive, whilst tempering this with balance and fairness

If the public lose confidence in the police, for whatever reason - but especially where there is a question of doubtful conduct, there will a rapid deterioration in the ability of the police to handle even the simplest situation.

Unfortunately, many people, including Police Constables and those that assess and advise them, as well as the general Public seem to confuse the terms

assertive / confident / arrogant ...

so to the police and those in charge .. the arrogance is seen as confidence/assertiveness

and to the public ...  the confidence/ assertiveness is seen as arrogance

Is there an easy answer ?? I doubt it.

We require the police to be confident/assertive and pugnacious when dealing with those we see as being lawbreakers ...

but when then deal with "me" they have to instantly realise that I'm actually a "good guy" and the one who pays their wages, so they should back off and show both respect and restraint.

Just how does anyone square that circle

In unsophisticated terms, the public get the police service they deserve and the police are treated in a manner, which they themselves deserve, based on their interaction with the public.

It's all about common consent but all too often the police lay themselves open to unnecessary difficulty as a result of their inappropriate behaviour - for whatever reason that behaviour is displayed.

In my own force that had all too often fatal consequences.

It says in the report that he was off duty at the time and was just visiting the Station, so it's probably lucky that if he's gots kids he didn't take them with him!!! .

 Nottinghamshire Police said the handler has not been suspended.... .
