Laptop fix(Dell)
« on: 07 July 2009, 01:41:57 »

Anyone out there with a dell lappy that doesnt charge?

Check inside the 'co-ax' power connector (on the end of the cable, not the chassis).  Is there a thin pin? If not then thats your problem (most likely).

When the boss goes shopping-nick her sowing tin and 'borrow' a sowing needle just thick enough to be a tightish fir in the chassis part of the socket, with the eyelet end inside and the nasty bit outside.
Use a pair of side cutters to clip the needle so it ends up about 1mm short of sticking out of the side of the case/chassis. Test the fit by plugging the power connector back in,you are looking for a near flush fit of the plug into the chassis.
If all is well contact should be made long enough for the sensor to decide its ok and charging should commence when you switch on.

Just saved yourself £20 !
