Any recomendations for free pc virus checkers?
« on: 24 July 2009, 15:38:09 »

My norton antivirus has expired, and I was wondering if anyone can recomend a free downloadable anti virus checker.  Just don't feel like shelling out £40 to renew.

a few freebies out there, normally limited in some respects. AVG Free is what I currently have on my Windows 7 PC

Norton is the spawn of the devil.

AVG & Avast are two freebies that spring to mind, and while AVG is getting slightly more bloated than what it used to be - it still won't bog your system down as much as what Norton is known for.

hear hear. I've been using it for a while too.

My dad uses whatever comes free from his ISP (currently BT). So he's got Mcafee and loves it  :y

I love not paying and AVG's been doing alright, especially once I turned the daily scan off.

Vectra Elite Estate doing good post-Omega service but still not as nice to sit in.

One last Omega on the drive, one Corsa on the lawn...maybe they'll go to a good home before too long!

AVG here too. Noticed the speed increase when I dumped Norton & installed it. Download.com has a direct link to free download.

Another vote for AVG, although on my main PC i dont use any AV at all.

I used to run it all the time but never had a virus, i dont visit dodgy websites or open email attachments so the risk is minimal to say the least.
