You are only asking about the switches, shouldn't you be askling about the number of wires? I have voted Auto with 2pin switch but I also only have 2 wires.

Its just I had a theory that the cruise loom is different between manaul and auto, with the normal clutch wires going to the extra pins on brake switch on autos....

Been fitting cruise to my '99 2.5V6 Manual.  Definitely has 4 pin brake multiplug with all cables in it.

Did work with 2 pin brake switch in place with a rather ominous clunk when brake switch pressed.  I suspect that a 2 pin brake switch causes something to happen with the ABS unit that does something with the cruise module.

The colours on my wiring loom do not agree with Haynes however....

I've just taken mine down for it's MOT and I tried the cruise control - IT WORKS  ;D

Touched the brakes and it disengaged instantly so it somehow gets the message from the brakes even though I only have two wires to the brake switch.

Looking at the later wiring diagram in Haynes there is a connection from trace 408 at the brake switch to trace 528 on pin G (I think) of the cruise module. There are also two brake switches in that wiring diagram, S8 is a single switch and S116 is a double. That makes me think that there are two looms. The S116 contacts are in parallel to the S8 contacts though and that should make it disengage with just the 2 pin switch. It's using the same contacts as the ones for the brake lights.

Presumably if you only have two wires to the brake switch it will turn off cruise using S8 but if you have 4 wires you will need S116 which then needs the 4 pin switch. The wiring diagram isn't printed very clearly in my copy of Haynes and my cruise is working so I'm not bothering to work out the connections from the autobox to the cruise module :)

Why they seem to have two ways of doing it though I don't know. It must be chaper to have only one loom, and certainly less confusing to poor old Rodney  :)
