Autobahn not stormers
« on: 15 March 2007, 15:37:59 »

I see that the thoroghly green coloured EU is trying to force Germany to put a speed limit of 80mph on the autobahns. They reckon  this will save 0.000000000000000000000000000001% of carbon output and, thus, save the world. Hurrah!

I intend to buy a 4.6litre V8 and leave it running constantly and also leave my central heating on forever, thus restoring the clever/dumb balance  :y

Fools.... most cars in Germany are like ours in terms of engine sizes. Its the U.S they should look into full of V8's over there!

I can't wait to get to Germany in my Europe trip and do my bit for the environment  :y ;D

SWMBO wants to go to Italy on holiday...

I NEED to convince her that we should to take my 3.2 rather then her MX-5. Could be my last chance.
I'm not even going to try for the Westfield....  :(

Wouldn't fit on account of the expected volume of shoes and handbags to be packed.

I think she can follow me in the MX until about Munich. I know a good biergarten where I can wait for her to catch up. Then we'll swap cars, top down and I'll give the MX a good spanking across the mountain passes ;-)

I'm very environmentally conscious thank you, hence the dual-fuel 3.0 V6 coupled with a more efficient (not to mention far more fun ;) ) manual gearbox. Just don't mention my ahem 18 MPG 4.4 V8 ::)

Apparently so, and I quote:
"LPG emits similar CO2 to diesel and considerably less than petrol. It is also much cleaner than diesel in terms of NOx and particulates which impact on our local air quality. A 400,000 Euro emission programme has recently been completed, comparing the emissions from petrol, diesel and LPG vehicles:

    * Compared with petrol, vehicles running on LPG emit about 20% less CO2.
    * Compared with diesel, one diesel car is equivalent to 20 LPG cars with regard to NOx, and 120 LPG vehicles with regard to particulates.
    * Diesel emits substantially more fine particles than LPG."

If it's running correctly, yes. Burns much more cleanly (partly due to naturally being a gas at ambient temps rather than a vapourised liquid) so much less general crap like benzene and nitrous oxides, and shorter chain molecules have a higher proportion of hydrogen molecules so you get more water and less carbon dioxide.
