I'm obviously bored if I'm thinking about this....
« on: 28 February 2010, 20:56:10 »

I'm obviously bored if I'm thinking about this, but has anyone else come across any other automatic cars that have had or have the same set up on the gearbox in having no dipstick in which to check the fluid level ?.  :-?

And has anyone on here managed to modify an outer sump, and make a dipstick tube to check it rather than having to jack up and crawl under the ruddy car !!.
If so, any chance you can let me (and the rest of us) in on the secret please ?.  ::)

Engineers on this idea... idiots !

I think there was no dipstick because checking of the oil was meant to be part of the (?)service.I've never seen this done  on a service yet :y

My mercedes viano had no dipstick for the g/b oil level....in fact when it was repaired last....after a hit on the oil cooler...it was repaired by a merc approved workshop.....but still had to be transported to a merc dealer....to have the gearbox filled with oil, as the merc approved workshop had no way of telling how much oil was in g/b  ::) ::)

Most boxes dont have dipsticks anymore....as they are considered sealed for life (e.g 3 years or 60K miles!).....
