As mentioned earlier if you're not in a rush stay off the motorways and use the 'A' and 'B' roads.  You'll find some great lunch spots, camp sites and/or local hotels/guest houses.  :y
Absolutely, its a lovely place. Ignoring Calais and surrounding area. I always get on the tolls ASAP to get as much distance from there as possible ;D
..and Rouen. Sodding place. Never been there without getting properly (as in 1/2 a day gone) lost. >:(
And TomTom, being the useless PoS that it is, always takes you through the middle.

Last year a colleague got his camper wagon stuck in a low tunnel there ;D
Well...it's gonna take you that way, if that's the shortest/quickest route, or unles you tell it not to. If I think I'm gonna be in trouble with the route it's taking me, I just head off in a different direction until it finds another route.
Why use TomTom, as it sucks anyway.

But when in a convoy, we all agree to use same satnav, and implicitly follow to the point you can't, then wait for anyone to catch up and then come up with a new plan.

That way nobody gets lost...  ...in theory!

I don't use my TT anymore, google maps on my iphone is the way  :y
Been using it for over a year now, and learnt to trust it for the fastest route  :y
When you start the route if it says arrival time is ie 9.58, you arrive there at 9.58. ok it does change the arrival time on route sometimes, but not often  :y
Only downside ive found is, its needs a data connection going continually, so if your in the sticks and loose data connection, your fubared !

Driving is a much nicer way of getting there though, unless you can afford a private jet  ;)

I concur. And to the South of France, probably quicker.  And you have a decent car to use whilst there.

What are you a man or a mouse?  Both Omegatoy and myself have driven it in less than 24 hours on a number of occasions.
Omega a lovely comfortable mile muncher. Have a break somewhere like Bordeaux. Stay in a Formula1 hotel . Have a meal and some beers and Pierre is your oncle. Arrive nice and refreshed . Loads of nice places to have a break and a wander around on the way. What you will find is driving is a real joy the minute you leave British soil.

I am preparing contingency plans to drive on my own in my 4x4 bus to Scotland if things don't work out with the aunt now she is back home.

We did the south of Italy in my old Omega... We drove Dunkirk to near Milan day 1 (thanks to Jim again for putting us up for a night in each direction) and then down to the villa in Ostuni.

We had friends who couldn't spare the additional 4-5 days to drive both ways so flew and hired a car... We arrived fresher and, ironically, cheaper than they did!!!!! Although that was par.tly down to LPG prices too. And the ironic thing was that the entire time we were there they left their hire car parked outside the villa and we used my car because it was so much more comfortable!

Drive man, drive!!!
