interestingly, if Mr Spigot had applied to the public sector...he would have been guaranteed an interview!
You touch a raw nerve there. That "double tick" symbol irritates me beyond rationality. I've been looking for work for two years, and I can do very specialised and highly skilled IT stuff. I don't even get asked to interviews, partly, I suspect, because Spigot and his cronies are using up all the interview slots and partly because I'm very old.
What I find particularly annoying is that, according to the DDA, I can claim to disabled, should I choose to do so, which I don't. I am "disabled" for 4 separate reasons, which shows how silly the whole thing is.
- I'm deaf (but my hearing aids allow to participate in most day-to-day indoor activities).
- I've got arthritis in my right shoulder and both knees (but that doesn't affect my capacity to design computer systems)
- I have a chronic disease/disorder which requires daily medication (type 2 diabetes, which, once again doesn't affect my capacity to do the work I'm trained to do)
- I suffer from asthma (as before)
But I'm b*ggered if I'm going to claim an interview because of any of that stuff. I want to be interviewed because I'm good at the job.
