A company I used to work for installed equipment in fields, so had a Lada Niva Cossack as a pool car. It was surprisingly agile, relatively comfortable if slow, and capable off road.
It was sold to one of my Engineers who still has it, and now has a 2.0 Ford Pinto engine in it, which apparently was a common swap as the engine mounts all line up!!

Pig ugly to look at, but functional. The "Cossack" package gave it alloys, leather seats, power steering, and a towbar as standard, and a bull bar too, all for £4k.  NEW!


(still wouldn't have one as a gift...........)

did it have like a rubber ring round it?

A mate of mine had one of the fast back Skoda's, only a 1.6 but it would absolutely pee all over my 2.2 princess! He was forever getting ribbed as the rear screen was heated so we could keep our hands warm whilst pushing it

We ran quite a few of them - right up to the Ambassador (which was the last variant if I remember rightly) so I have a soft spot for them.
