That's the problem - you can't pass out and go 'round all day anymore.. or, more accurately, you can't pass out, miss your stop and then just stay on until you get where you wanted to go  ;D

Not that I can imagine wanting to stay on the underground that long; I loathe that place, four stops seems like an eternity to me, let alone rattling around the circle line all night! Then again, I'd rather wedge myself into the Tokyo Metro or Taipei's RTS at rush hour than ride the undergound; at least they have air conditioning!

I suppose it's as valid as anything we have masquerading as policy at the moment.

What it does show is that short of a fundamental rethink of our transport network, we will be required to struggle on paying through the nose for anything connected with road/rail transport while the system continues to deteriorate into moribundity.

Irrespective of the intentions laid out in this document it’s the vigorous pursuit and enforcement of such proposals (should they ever become adopted in law) that makes the real difference.

Regretfully we have often seen that there can be a vast difference between proposals made while in opposition (without national responsibility) and the reality of being in government, when those same proposers are required to weigh many other factors and considerations when deciding policy.

the circle line is a real pain now, i try to avoid it when i get off at paddington stn. as for 60 tonne lorries on the rd 24 hrs a day will not be good for our shitty rds surely, and the noise coming from the engine will be louder as they have more weight to pull. bad enough now 6am every morning all the lorries coming from the warehouses

I love their ideas on railway transport and the system in total :-* :-* :-* :-*

However, I could write a very similar piece of policy; that is the easy part!  Raising the finance, pushing it through the planning stage, and making it all happen is the very hard part and this party, I believe, lack the skills or application to pull it off! ::) ::) :P :P

You may be right Lizzie, but do any of the others have the skills or application ? Not on the evidence that I have seen in the last 20 years. ;)

That worries me Albs, and what we really require is the great railway promoters and engineers of the past to reactivate "the big push" to redevelop the railways in an exciting and progressive fashion! ;)

Introduce a 'Britdisc' (vignette) on foreign lorries not paying anything for British roads, and crack down on  'killer lorries' (overladen or dangerous).

administered where and by whom? unworkable.

killer lorries? have they gone quite mad?

besides thats the polices job i'm quite sure its already illegal but thanks UKIP you're really helping  :y

So, you don't drive on the M20 very much, I assume?

Doesn't seem that hard to administer. As they come into the port you stop them unless they stump up for a tax disk. Make it costly enough and they won't come over laden to the gunholes with cheap diesel and work our roads. They'll drop off at the port and let a more responsible driver who's sitting the right side of the cab do it instead.

Kevin

Or, as they come through the port will have to buy the Vignette to use the roads.... Works OK in Switzerland ;) :y

Oh dear... Not tried yet ::) But I am expecting it to be a PITA as they're designed so they can't be moved from vehicle to vehicle ;)

Mind you, there is a way around that problem ::)

Yeah, wish I'd thought about that one when I stuck it on.

Tried everything. White spirit, alcohol, some nasty solvent in a can, label remover. Ended up chipping it off with a Stanley knife blade over a period of about 45 minutes.. >:(
