I've read on a forum that you can change the outgoing to mailhost.zen.co.uk, would that work, keeping the same email address?

I doubt Zen would allow a non Zen subscriber to use their smarthosts. Or any ISP for that matter.

For about 10 years I've been paying for broadband through Tesco.net (I know - no comments please).

To solve my e-mail address problem, I've signed up to Tesco Broadband and Phone package, saving myself about £30 per month, with the added bonus of the fastest broadband I can receive in my area.

I was assured that I could keep my, and Mrs AA's e-mail addresses, so that solved a problem of not having to notify everyone in our address books of a change of e-mail address.

Thereby we have hit on a problem, as we have now signed up to tesco.com, different to tesco.net, we can receive e-mails through MS Outlook, but not send, to send we have to log onto tesco.net, and send e-mails from there, thus having no facility to forward or reply to e-mails from Outlook, most inconvenient!.

Bear with me, if I sign upto Gmail, which you can configure Outlook to send and receive, and I configure tesco.net to forward e-mails to gmail, then, in theory, we can reply to e-mails through Outlook, all be it the received e-mail will be from our tesco.net address, and the reply will be from our gmail address.

Can anyone see any problems with that please?

If gmail allow relaying then you should be able to send via them and configure LookOut to give your Tesco addy in the Reply-to field.  Only someone who reads the headers would know it didn't come from Tesco.

Some spam filters are getting a bit anxious when they see mail from: and reply-to: not matching.

It certain appears in the list of checks in some fiilters.

If you had a domain name, and used gmail, I'd be inclined to let google manage all your mail

That doesn't surprise me.  There are some stupid policies being implemented by even some big players.  I know two btInternet.com users who don't get my emails (or so they say) ;D even though I get transfer status back from the receiving mail server.

And as for greylisting...  that's the most ridiculous response to spamming I can imagine.  Several NHS Trusts I have to send twice to if I want a delivery.  How does that help them? >:( >:(

SPAM is a never ending fight, and always a compromise to fight.

But there will always be arseholes on the internet aiming for gullible people (of which there is a very high proportion), so things will only get worse.

My incoming mail is from my domain hosts servers (POP3), outgoing throught my ISP's SMPT servers using my domain name - been like that for years without any issues.

Some ISPs allow outgoing SMTP from other domains, either based on IP, or authentication, or both.

Its all to easy to get on Spamhaus's blacklist, and an ISP has to make a several hundred pound donation to Spamhaus to be removed, with no guarantees about not going back on.

Hence, most ISPs are *very* cautious about relaying mail.
