Take a Tupolev 154...
« on: 01 May 2011, 21:02:04 »

...that's been in military storage for 10 years, take it up, then find out it's more than a bit uncontrollable.

A Dutch roll, I think it's called. :-?

How they got it landed remains a mystery.  :o :o :o

This video is "on finals". There are three in the set, but the touchdown and flare is sadly missing due to being out of the camerman's sight.  :(

Definately more skid marks from the aircrew than the aircraft made on landing I suspect! :o The strain on that airframe must have been pretty impressive too! Full marks to them for getting it down, hopefully in one piece  :y

:o Mine would have been alternating between the size of a sixpence and a manhole cover.  :D

I guess it was a case of either skill and/or luck in timing the touchdown to when things were pointing in roughly the right direction.  Fair doos to them.

Yes, indeed. The general concensus of comments by aviators agree it took some real skill to get that thing down in one piece.  :y

A stunt plane pilot had engine trouble while practising above where I work on Thursday. According to eyewitnesses he tried very hard to bring it in to land, but unfortunately he clipped some trees and flipped into a lake about 200 yards away.
He and his passenger were still in the plane at the bottom of the lake when the emergency services arrived. :(
