LPG pipes - deterioration
« on: 28 April 2012, 19:24:44 »

Hi all

When I changed my injectors, I looked at the condition of the pipes between manifold nozzle to injectors.

All of my pipes were brand new just under a year ago. They now appear to have lots of small cracks in and appear to be in poor condition. One of them especially is not good at all.

I'm going to replace them, obviously.

What do we think could cause this? They are of good length and not stressed. The only thing I can think of, is heat, as they run quite close to the side of each cyl head / cam cover.

Have any of you insulated your LPG vapour hoses with suitable trunking, etc? I am thinking of doing this with mine, to perhaps safeguard them a little.

Thoughts very welcome :y

Mine is only a 4 pot James so probably nowhere near the heat of a V6 but my hoses are 2 years old now and still as good as the day they were fitted :-\

They may have been new but how old was the pipe? As Chris said, correct grade?

Not really looked at mine but I know the ones on my saloon were as good as new after 2 years :-\

Incidentally, I know the injector pipes on D's recently (professionally) converted car have been sleeved in some trunking to help protect them from the heat there ;) I also know its been done to a high standard (judging by the pictures I've seen) and the installer wasn't too proud to ask me for some pointers knowing that I've converted more than him recently :y

Supplied by Tinleytech, to be honest I've always trusted them. I also used the 4mm pipe for the vacc between plenum and vaporisor, and that's also starting to crack up.

Going to replace it all with some pipe from another source, and make sure it's all in sleeving.

Hmm... Tinley are normally pretty good and have quite a high turnover of pipework (I would have thought) :-\ The fact the vac pipes are going too suggests it wasn't up to the job for some reason though ;)

Yep, mine are still fine but have seen others that haven't done as well. Cr@p hose or old hose, I guess? :-\
