anyone know anything about Binoculars?
« on: 05 September 2011, 10:07:16 »

I picked up these in a flea market at the weekend, from what I can tell they are Russian Soviet made, in about the 1950's/60's

They are like new, the leather strap is unmarked, there are no scratches on the lens, they let plenty of light in, the feel really well made and solid. How things used to be! The focus has a refined feel to it, its a very smooth focus and everything is super clear.

I understand the 7 is the magnification & the 50 is the width of the lens, I have used smaller more powerful ones before, but these seem better.

Not bad for £15!

What I don't really get are the eye piece filters, I guess they are for night use?  :-/

Guessing Green ones are for night, but whats the Orange ones for?  :-?

AFAIK orange lenses give more clarity over distance in hazy conditions

Humm will have to give Orange ones a whirl, been meaning to get some for a while.

Took them to the o2 Arena yesterday, were brilliant for seeing action up close.

Cheers Cem  :y

Still think even though it has a lower magnification than some, they still appear better!!

Will keep an eye out, got some great views from my flat. I did see a proper telescope, but that would have been difficult to take home!

You know it's not polite to look through peoples windows.. no matter how attractive they are.
