Baliffs
« on: 21 September 2011, 22:08:49 »

I have been following this on-going saga (see link below) for a while now. Basically, it would appear that baliffs appointed by councils have been charging whatever they feel like for debt collection (which is how a £50 fine can turn into a £445 debt collection). What's worse, is that it appears at least one council is taking a cut of the baliffs' fees and it is set to double at the next tender. Apparently, that is not entirely legal... :o  ::) ::)

A fascinating tale, which I would recommend you to read. ;)

There must be quite a few south american countries which are less corrupt than this country now.Its that arrogance thing which pervades certain parts of our establishment. They have got the public service idea totally arse about face. >:(

Granted there are lots of different circumstances in which people find themselves in financial difficulty and my post was from a personal perspective.

I'm involved in a case where a couple owe me a few grand after I helped them through some difficult times.  Their financial situation has now improved dramatically and they've bought a house with cash and the car they drive is worth more than they owe me......

However they have refused to pay me back, basically thinking I'd let it drop.  They thought wrong and we have a court hearing next month.  I will happily get the baliffs in to take their car..... or their house for that matter! It's not about the money any more, but about right and wrong......

So sorry if I upset you chaps, and Richie no you shouldn't get evicted for council tax arrears.  However there are alot of scumbags out there who think that a CCJ is a badge of honour and take advantage of the fact that it is a massive hassle to take legal action.....  >:( >:( >:(
