Tapping as in? Listen carefully at the top end of the engine, it could be a noisy follower, that's if it's a loud ticking noise.

i have had the bonnet up and been trying to locate the ticking sound but still not sure..revved the engine of the cable and it was there but not so loud. tuck it out for a drive and when you stick you foot down its there again.
so got home did the same over again then sat in side and it seems louder inside when you rev the car than when iam hovering over the engine :-/

Is it more pronounced when the car is cold? Or is it all the same when hot and cold?

does the tapping increase or degrease with engine revs? If so its a noisey follower, or maybe an issue with something on the aux belt (aircon pump/tensioner/alternator)

If its the same all the time, it will be exhaust manifold.

i have put some Wynn's hydraulic release liquid in the oil and going to have a run out in the car tomorrow see if that helps free and clean a few things up.i was told by a omega owner i see today at halfords he had the same problem and put this stuff in and the noise just went after 100 or so miles.

Forget all the additive crap my friend, first thing on your list is an oil & filter change.
Do two in quick succession if needs be, and then listen.
