Mark wouod it be worth replacing the guides and chain? bearing in mind the low miles?

your call, sub 100 quid for the full kit, may well be ok.

But whats caused the failure?

ok will have a close look when i remove the timing cover completely, as to wahts caused it, only clue i have is that the owners son was known to redline it everywhere and there is a lot of play in the waterpump? hg was showing a little damage in between 2 an 3 cylinders ? other than that no idea!!!
